Rodents

Mice/ Rats

The first step in controlling mice is to inspect feeding areas and exclude mice by closing entry access points. If possible, get rid of human and pet food sources that the mice may be feeding. Enclose the food in tight fitting containers. Kitchen floors, sinks and counter tops need to be kept clean. The top advantage of trapping is being able to locate the dead rodent instead of a decomposing corpse.

Rodenticides are poison baits and should be used in areas where domestic animals and children can't reach.

Use resistant -tamper bait stations that hold the baits in place and keep children and pets out.

Squirrels

There are several species of squirrels that inhabit the attics causing damage and noise. Squirrels are abundant in the wilds because their natural predators are less abundant. Because of this population increase and a decreasing natural habitat due to construction, we start to see them in our attics. They seek warm, safe shelter during the fall and winter months in particular.

Removal of any diet source: bird seed for example, because they attract the squirrels is the first order of business.

Gutter guards and covering down spouts will reduce the amount of squirrels entering through the roof top and facia boards.

There are no poison baits on the market that squirrels will just mice and rat bait.
Live trapping and exclusion are the only way to remove unwanted squirrels.
